Little Gems

I'm working on a classroom update, but I need to get some pictures in order. Until then, I have some student quotes I've been hanging on to.

7th Graders
While working in groups to make a skit:
Girl: My name was going to be "Puree." I wanted a French name. That sounds French!
Boy: That's not even a real name! What do you think this? Narnia?

A student asked me about some projects hanging on the wall
Me: This is about a book my 10th graders read.
Student: It is about "How to Kill a Mockingjay?"
Me:.... Close

Randomly overheard in class
Girl: The best tea I've ever had is called Sugar Plum. It tastes like you're going to become a fairy.
7th graders taking a "Flat Stanley" style picture for Rebi in China

10th graders:
"She treats me like a tree!"

Also news in 10th grade...

we had 20's themed party to celebrate finishing The Great Gatsby and present projects.

I was excited to see how much fun my students had planning the event. One group planned to present a skit covering the last chapter or two of the book for their final project. Over all, the skit was hilarious (they brought in an inflatable kiddie pool for Gatsby to die in). At one point, they shot off a confetti cannon and the girl shooting it aimed straight up and down, blasting a hole into my ceiling... while my principal was watching...
See the hole with confetti falling out? Every time the air turned on, a few pieces would float down...

What could I but laugh? I told the class we'd learned a valuable lesson about how to shoot off confetti cannons. Their dream of dreams is now that I will let them sign it. I probably will.

I've also accepted a position as the assistant coach of the girl's soccer team. That might be its own post.

Outside of school, I've been letting the newest Mary Kay representative, Sarah Glass, give me facials:

And hanging out, making Bulgarian yummies with Rachel. I so, so enjoyed a weekend of pretending we were in Bulgaria! We went to a Bulgarian dance night in northern RVA, made banitsa, shopska, and even had fries with sirene. Good weekend.

Speaking of Bulgaria... I'm planning on heading back this summer! I'm SO excited to have this opportunity to hang out with friends and get to do some ministry again. If you'd like more information, let me know!
